Athletic Training Student Organization
We appreciate your interest in becoming a member of our sports medicine team at Texas Tech University. Our staff has constructed an internship program where students have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience from our eight state-licensed and nationally-certified athletic trainers.
Each athletic training student will have a structured rotation with different collegiate athletic teams to gain athletic training experience. Students will have the opportunity to enroll in three additional athletic training specific courses to help study the profession: care and prevention of athletic injuries, therapeutic exercise and modalities, and advanced athletic training techniques. The athletic training staff will also offer weekly in-service sessions to provide additional information on a variety of topics. Upon completion of the program, students should possess necessary skills and experiences to challenge the licensure exam of the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers, enabling them to practice as athletic trainers in the state of Texas.
Texas Tech University is fortunate to have a new football training facility that was completed in Spring 2004. This facility is home to our main athletic training room, which is used by all of our Division I athletic programs and their athletes. One of the finest aquatic therapy centers in Texas, including a Hydroworx 2000, a ThermalPlunge and PolarPlunge pool, is housed here. Additionally, we have four satellite athletic training facilities located around the campus.
The criterion for acceptance into the sports medicine program at Texas Tech University includes the following requirements: good academic background (GPA, SAT, ATC, etc.); sound work ethic and integrity; previous athletic training experience (high school student athletic trainer, workshops, conventions, or observation experiences); and a genuine interest in the field of athletic training.
Please complete the following application and return it to us by March 1st, 2006, and include three letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to your character and potential as an athletic trainer. These individuals can include your supervising athletic trainer, team physician, coaches, teachers, or employers. Also include a passport-size (2" x 2") current photograph with your application materials.
Again, we appreciate your interest in our program and are excited to visit with you about becoming a student athletic trainer at Texas Tech University. If you have any further questions, contact us at the football training facility. Once we receive your application, we will contact you for an interview or any additional information. Thank you for your interest.
