The Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes

In January of 2004 the doors of The Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes opened for service to the student-athletes of Texas Tech University. The Athletic Academic Services Office is charged with providing academic support and various student services not only to current student-athletes, but also to future and past Red Raiders. This state of the art facility is one of the finest around the country and was designed for a specific purpose - giving Red Raider and Lady Raider student-athletes an environment to ensure academic success. It is up to each student-athlete to embrace the responsibility of their academics and grow in taking ownership of their collegiate experience - this is one of the underlying tasks of the Athletic Academic Services staff and the Texas Tech coaching staff. College athletics is in a pivotal time where various athletic programs are being scrutinized on their campuses for improprieties that went unnoticed and unchecked, academic support only goes so far, it is at this point that student services is of utmost importance in integrating the student-athletes with the student body. Texas Tech student-athletes are already setting the pace academically among their peers in the classroom. Through the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program and the Texas Tech Student Affairs Office, student-athletes have the best student services at their disposal. This facility has distinguished Texas Tech University as an institution committed to providing the best educational support possible to today's student-athletes. The Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes is at the center of support for student-athletes balancing athletics, academics, and life after sport.

The Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes provides sufficient space for private study, state-of-the art computer lab, supplemental instruction classrooms, conference room, and tutoring rooms for tutoring and mentoring appointments. The offices, conference room, and tutoring areas provide the support staff with the space needed to offer an academic support system for optimum use by student-athletes. When student-athletes and alumni come to visit the facility, they will enter the Texas Tech Academic Hall of Fame, located between the computer lab and conference room. The Academic Hall of Fame will recognize those student-athletes who excelled both in the classroom and on the field, and provide a lasting legacy of their academic accomplishments while wearing the red and black.
